What Customers Say About Sabrent SBT-USC1K Hi-Speed USB 2.0 to Serial DB-9 RS-232 Adapter Cable (Black):

We bought this product in order to connect a Magellan Meridian Gold to the USB port on our laptop. It came with no instructions and a small installation disk. After installing the product to the best of our ability, no connection was ever made to the GPS. We have since given up and are transferring files between the laptop and the GPS using an SD card (works flawlessly).

Works on Macbook Pro with ZTerm v1.1beta7 as tty.usbserial and Ubuntu Linux 8.10 Minicom 2.3 as ttyUSB0, both without loading the driver CD. So far I have just tried using it on Cisco router consoles.

Run "apcaccess" to verify it's working. Edit /etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf to configure/change the name.4.

I had apcupsd running on the old machine. I recently upgraded the hardware on my Linux box and I no longer have serial ports.

Look at /var/log/messages to see what device name was automatically assigned (/dev/ttyUSB0).3. This is how I got it running after the hardware upgrade:1.

Plugged in the UPS using this converter.2. Execute "/sbin/chkconfig apcupsd on" then "service apcupsd start".5.

and it was.running.

I had to download prolific drivers from a third party site. I bought this cable to use with my Cisco 851w router and it works great. I wanted to give this product 5 stars but the Vista Driver that came with the CD did not work. Once installed the cable works great and I have no issues. Would definitely recommend, but keep in mind the Vista Drivers may not work off of the CD.

long and the construction seems as sturdy. The reason I choose this one is simply because these things are $30 in the store and I didn't feel like spending that on this silly thing that I am going to use for one application, my GPS. It does exactly what I wanted it to do.

You take it out of the wrapping and plug it in. Windows will tell you to insert the driver CD.

This is a very strait forward item. It says it works on XP, but I installed it on Vista and it works fine with my GPS.

In about 15 seconds, it will tell you to restart your computer. Then it should work.

Not to mention, the cord isn't 6 ft. Two thumbs up for this thing.
